Lightning "McQuinn" Cars Themed Cake

I would have to say that Brian is my #1 fan. He is always bragging about everything I do and has more pride and confidence in my skills than I do. One of his friends from elementary school contacted him and asked if I would be interested in making a Lightning McQueen cake for her son Quinn's Birthday. I did a bit of research online and found some pictures. My mom is such a great help. She bought me a small Lightning McQueen toy car to use as a model. It was great fun making the cake, have a look:

Brian's friend wanted white cake for the car on top of the cake and chocolate for the bottom. I baked the cakes and then had to carve McQueen out of cake.

After the car was carved I had to crumb coat it. This layer of buttercream helps the homemade marshmallow fondant stick to the cake.

Here is the vibrant red fondant rolled out and ready to cover the cake.

Here is the cake covered, the fondant then had to be smoothed into place.

McQueen really started to show once I added the eyes and mouth.

I printed McQueen's decals on edible rice paper. They came out wonderful!

McQueen is on a double layer chocolate half sheet cake with chocolate buttercream. YUM!

I have to be a little nosy, what ever happened to your kitchen remodel?

You are amazing! I found you whilst googling (all the way in New Zealand!) and am so impressed. I would like to have a go making this for my soon-to-be-four year old's party coming up - how long in advance could I make this?
